My paintings are based on my particular interest in architecture. My artistic process involves the balance of color, geometric shapes and lines to create machine-like landscapes that incorporate loosely defined structures and imagined places. I vary dimensions to create tensions between proportions, angles and perspectives. The colors interlock to suggest multiple potential applications, such as stained glass, textile design and a collage-like effect. I also use circular shapes to help create movement in my paintings.
I generally start with an idea on what I want to paint but I don’t always know what I’m aiming for as an end result. Every paint stroke either confirms I should continue with my idea or leads me to adjust my process. Paintings are finished when they feel right to me. I work on multiple paintings at the same time which allows me to analyze the process and direction I want to take the painting. I primarily use oil and acrylic paints.
My intention is to create abstract structures, spaces and images. My goal is to have the viewer continuously scan the canvas to rationalize and make interpretations on what is reality in my imaginary world.
