About Me

  •  The path that led me to pursue my passion for art is anything but traditional. I am an entrepreneur and by most standards, I have been quite successful.  I opened a restaurant at the age of 26 and spent the last 28 years building that business into the well-known establishment it is today; Moscatiello’s Italian Family Restaurant.  I also started investing in real estate and eventually started the Franklin Group where I develop commercial properties.  In 2008 I began to paint with oil paints as a hobby. I had never taken any formal art classes, but the process of learning through trial and error brought me a sense of accomplishment as I became more comfortable with different techniques. What started as a hobby quickly became a passion and looking back, I can see the role that having a creative outlet has played in my life. In the restaurant business, I used my passion for food and creativity to produce new specials and to keep our menu evolving with the times. I also enjoyed designing and redecorating the restaurant as we added banquet rooms and changed the aesthetics of the dining room. The driving desire behind pursuing real estate investments was the enjoyment of the creative aspects such as designing a site plan, rehabbing a building and working with an architect to make my vision come to life.

Artist Statement

My paintings are based on my particular interest in architecture.  My artistic process involves the balance of color, geometric shapes and lines to create machine-like landscapes that incorporate loosely defined structures and imagined places. I vary dimensions to create tensions between proportions, angles and perspectives. The colors interlock to suggest multiple potential applications, such as stained glass, textile design and a collage-like effect.  I also use circular shapes to help create movement in my paintings.

I generally start with an idea on what I want to paint but I don’t always know what I’m aiming for as an end result.  Every paint stroke either confirms I should continue with my idea or leads me to adjust my process.  Paintings are finished when they feel right to me.  I work on multiple paintings at the same time which allows me to analyze the process and direction I want to take the painting.  I primarily use oil and acrylic paints.

My intention is to create abstract structures, spaces and images.  My goal is to have the viewer continuously scan the canvas to rationalize and make interpretations on what is reality in my imaginary world.
